5 Minutes for Me and for Others

Hello from sunny Melbourne!

Sunrise in Melbourne

I have been on summer holidays for the last few weeks and I have truly had the most relaxing break! I’ve spent time reading, walking along the beach, trying new recipes, seeing family, going on a cruise to the South Pacific, catching up on unwatched tv shows and YouTube videos, faffing around our home, and so many other fun activities. I’ve prioritised relaxation above everything else and I feel great!

I am now thinking about how to get ready for a new school year but I’m doing it slowly and intentionally. I want to ensure that my family’s and my health and well-being are paramount and I hope that the flow-on effect from that will be that my colleagues, friends, and students will also have a healthy and happy year.

Many studies have shown that looking after the health and wellbeing of others can often suppress our own physiological and psychological problems: a win-win for everyone! As David Robson stated in his Observer piece, “Other-care, it seems, is often one of the best forms of self-care.”

Thank you for spending 5 minutes with me. I hope you find 5 minutes today to look after you and in the process look after others!
